Why your butcher isn’t on a delivery app
Ask a butcher why they’re not on one of the big delivery apps and you’ll get
the same answer three times out of four: the commission. Thirty per cent of a
£12 order doesn’t work on a product with a margin of a few pounds, and it never
will.
That’s the problem we set out to avoid. We don’t take a penny of what a shop
sells. Our cut comes off the delivery, which is a service that didn’t exist
before the order did, so there’s nothing to squeeze out of the shop’s margin.
What that means in practice
A deliverer walks into the shop, buys at the counter like any other customer,
and takes it to the person who ordered it. The shop sells at its own prices,
takes its own money, and doesn’t have to change a thing about how it operates.
No tablet. No integration. No monthly fee.
The catch
It only works where somebody local is willing to do the running. That’s the
genuinely hard part of this, and it’s why we spend more effort on looking
after deliverers than on almost anything else.
We may earn a small commission from links on this page. It never changes what you pay.
